Speaking
I have addressed more than 100 audiences in 12 countries–usually as a keynoter and almost always on a topic related to business communications or social media. Attendees have called me both inspirational and motivational, but mostly I use factual case studies to explain how companies I’ve examined have used social media to achieve business goals.
A few sample topics:
” Social media and ______”
I examine and report on how specific professions or industry segments use social media. Since 2006, I have reported on how social media has made a difference for start ups and in the global enterprise, for PR and communications professionals; in healthcare and government. In each case, I report on the best practices of industry and segment leaders. Here are slides from a talk to the Israeli PR industry’s professional association.
“The Art of Presentation”
I have been helping startups and enterprise CEOs make presentations for over 20 years. My presentation is filled with very specific advice on how to improve your presentations, by telling compelling stories, rather than just assembling dense PowerPoint slides. This blog post discusses some of the issues I address.
“The Global Neighborhood”
I examine how social media has made geography far less relevant than it used to be. Now people are finding others who share their common interests. I take a look at how this is changing the world, including the increasing role that social media plays in politics, campaigning and revolution.
“Braided Journalism”
Of all the institutions that social media has upended, none has been more dramatically changed than traditional media. Today we get our news online, not just from professional news organizations but from companies themselves, and–more important–from customers and citizens. I look at what has happened, what is happening and express a vision for a new era in which citizen and professional journalism are braided together.
“Enterprise Communities”
I report on how large business-to-business organizations like SAP, IBM, Dell, Microsoft and Intuit are succeeding by creating communities for customers and partners.
